Taken from Porth Nanven, Cornwall, England, in February 2010, looking west across to the Longships Lighthouse in the distance.

Travel a further 3000 miles due west across the Atlantic Ocean and you will arrive at Newfoundland or maybe New York.

I understand the title completely - it's a silence that says quite a lot ;-) Lovely serene, perfect capture of the moment!!

Thank You :)
It was a very still evening. You couldn't even hear the sound of the waves. I could have heard a pin drop.

A very well made long exposure, congrats mate :) Did you have something very dark, like the Hoya NDx400? Or did you just get up early/stay up late?

I used a B+W 110 Neutral Density filter 110 (ND 3.0 filter which reduces the exposure by 10 f stops: a filter factor of 1000x) - similar to the Hoya NDx400. The filters are really designed for photographing industrial processes of extreme brightness such as steel furnaces and incinerators but we photographers have fun with them. The sun had already set when I took the photo but the scene still looked quite bright. The image is a bit flat - rather than use the filter at sunrise or sunset as I have been I am going to have a go during stronger light in the daytime and maybe get a bit more punch to my photos.
This image was a 7 minute exposure which then takes another 7 minutes because I used the noise reduction facility on the camera. If you get the exposure wrong you can waste a lot of time!
I notice you use long exposures; do you also use such a filter?
Cheers :)

Something similar, I have an ND8, only 3 stops, but I borrow the ND x400 from a friend of mine from time to time, and yes, they are tons of fun to use. Only problem is you need a decent tripod for the job. Luckily, I just bought one and I really like what I'm getting with this setup. All I need now is a job for gas money, so I can travel more :)
Cheers, thanks for the elaborate response and keep up the good work!

Yea, I have been known to go on a bit - and to take a long time to reply. It is great to travel but photographically speaking it is also great to get to know your own back yard really well - so speaks a man who does very little travelling :)

I'm so stuck in a rut with the city I live in (Bucharest).. I need something to give me a different angle on it or I need to leave more often.
